A new season underway then but last year's title winners Rochdale were unable to get three points on the board as they were held 1-1 at Accrington, Burnley though again looking to mount another challenge at the top of the table as they picked up an excellent win 5-0 at Morecambe. Coming next with big 4-0 home victories were Oldham, sadly against Carlisle, and Tranmere versus Stockport.
Wrexham also scored four but they did concede one in their 4-1 home win over Shrewsbury, while the final two victories in the division came with Port Vale's 2-0 success at Wigan and Preston surprisingly going down 2-1 at Blackpool. Next week for the young Blues meanwhile, after their disappointing start against the Latics, comes a home match against Rochdale in an 11am kick-off at Creighton Rugby Club.
