With Preston out of action at the weekend Walsall now sit deservedly on top of the table with five wins out of five, their latest victory being a 3-0 home success over Wrexham. Carlisle meanwhile remain third after Mark Beck's first half goal saw them sneak past Blackpool 1-0 on a sopping wet Creighton pitch, while Bury leapfrogged Burnley and up to fourth in the division after defeating the Clarets 4-2 at home.
Elsewhere this weekend Port Vale moved up a few places in the table after a good 4-1 victory at Stockport, while the same scoreline came at Shrewsbury, only this time it was the home side on top against Macclesfield, and another three goal margin of victory came slightly surprisingly at Tranmere where Wigan got their first points after four straight defeats at the end of the season with a 3-0 win on the Wirral.
Only one match finished drawn this week and that was Oldham at home to Rochdale ending 1-1, while one game did fall foul of the weather as Morecambe at home to Accrington was postponed. Stanley, now bottom of the table after Wigan's victory, hopefully having a fruitless Saturday next time out too when they face Carlisle this coming weekend in an 11am kick-off on the first team pitch at the Crown Ground.
