With Carlisle once more out of league action at the weekend it meant that the young Blues have now dropped down to fourth in a five team log jam at the top of the table. Burnley, despite not playing, staying in first with 27 points while still unbeaten Walsall, and Preston, are in second and third a point behind, the Saddlers winning 4-2 at Stockport while North End picked up a 2-0 home win over Rochdale.
The Cumbrians, with a game in hand on leaders Burnley, sitting on 24 points, alongside Tranmere now in fifth who defeated Shrewsbury 3-0 at home, the top six being completed by a Bury side who only managed to pick up a point at home to Morecambe. The only other two games played seeing two sides win on their own turf, Oldham 2-0 against Accrington Stanley and Wrexham 1-0 over a Wigan Athletic side who are now second bottom in the table, on goal difference above Morecambe.
Next Saturday sees the young Blues finally return to action in the league after four weeks off, Carlisle having recently been busy in cup action as well as having their game at Burnley last weekend called off due to the Clarets kicking off early in first-team action against Leeds. United, if Preston fail to win at Morecambe, having the chance to go back to the top of the table if they can beat Stockport at home at Creighton Rugby Club in an 11am kick-off.
