With Carlisle and Preston both having their respective games at Bury and Accrington Stanley called off due to to waterlogged pitches it meant that the top of the table has got even tighter this weekend. The top four teams, with United still in first place, now separated by just three points after Burnley easily defeated Rochdale 4-0 at home, although Walsall were only able to pick up a point in a 0-0 home draw against Tranmere.
Further down the table meanwhile Blackpool notched a rare win with a 1-0 home victory over Oldham, and Wigan were another side gaining three points on their own turf as they defeated Macclesfield 2-0. Port Vale were the biggest home winners though as they hammered Wrexham 6-1, but it wasn't a good Saturday at home for Shrewsbury as they went down 3-1 against Stockport.
Next weekend sees six games take place in the division in the final round of fixtures before we enter the Christmas and New Year break, with third-placed Preston being the only side in the top four not in action. As for Carlisle it's back to Creighton this coming Saturday morning as the Blues take on an Oldham team who are currently in ninth place in the division in a 12noon kick-off.
