Two games into the 2012-13 campaign and two home wins alongside two clean sheets sees Carlisle top of the table, United recording an excellent 2-0 victory over title holders Preston on Saturday thanks to a brace of second-half goals from Alex Salmon. The young Blues now on the road for the first time this season next weekend when they make the journey down to Football League new boys Fleetwood Town.
The Cod Army themselves going down 3-1 at Burnley on Saturday, albeit through two late Clarets goals after drawing their opening game of the campaign at home to Morecambe. The Shrimps not in action last weekend as their match at home to Accrington Stanley was postponed, presumably due to a waterlogged playing surface at Lancaster and Morecambe College.
Staying in Lancashire meanwhile Blackpool's rotten form continued with a 3-0 defeat at Bury who, apart from Carlisle, are the only side left with a 100% record after just two matchdays. Moving down into the southern half of the division there were a couple of draws as Port Vale held Tranmere 2-2 on the Wirral, while Walsall at home to Macclesfield ended 1-1. The final game played seeing Wrexham defeat Shrewsbury 2-1 in North Wales.
