With Bury out of action at the weekend Carlisle's lead at the top of the table has increased to four points after United defeated Blackpool 4-1 at home thanks to goals from Kyle Dempsey, Greg Peel, Connor Thomson and Alex Salmon. The Blues now having a different side behind them in second spot though as Preston moved up the table following their 3-2 win at home to a previously undefeated Walsall side.
That loss for the Saddlers meaning that Wrexham, in third place, are now the only unbeaten side in the league after the Red Dragons picked up a 3-1 victory at rock bottom Tranmere, who have now lost five of their first six matches. Further down the division meanwhile and Shrewsbury have moved into the top of half of the table following their 2-0 win at home to Macclesfield. while Morecambe took a hearty 5-0 thrashing at home to Burnley and Accrington went one worse as they were thumped 6-1 at Rochdale on Friday afternoon.
Only one goal coming in the final game played on Saturday morning though as Oldham defeated Port Vale 1-0 at home. Next weekend sees every team in the division in action, although whether that will turn out to be the case the way the weather is remains to be seen.
