All the danger was done early on then and a lot of it was done during the first round tie at Brunton Park by Gary Madine who put two recent penalty misses behind him to score four goals, while his first-half strike partner Francois Zoko got himself on the scoresheet twice as the Blues raced into a 5-0 lead at the interval in front of 4,241 spectators, of which 341 made the journey up from the Black Country.

With the first real chance of the game Carlisle took the lead in the fifth minute when Tipton left-back Dan Parker's error allowed Zoko to race through and place an easy lob over the top of advancing goalkeeper Matt Sargeant and into an empty net from 20 yards out. The Blues then going 2-0 up three minutes later when Matty Robson's shot hit the bar, Ben Marshall crossed in low from the rebound and Madine was left unmarked to tap home from almost on the goal-line.

The visitors were all over the place at the back early on and it was 3-0 after only 12 minutes when, from a James Berrett corner, Madine thumped a header into the back of the net from the middle of the box. Sargeant finally able to make a save four minutes later when he held onto Marshall's low drive. It was another goal from a corner for United on 19 minutes however when Zoko's touch and soft volley from a Berrett corner somehow found its way into the Tipton goal.

Things then settled down in the match as the visitors finally started to stem the tide a little, the next clearcut Blues chance coming in the 39th minute when Berrett's corner was headed over the top by James Chester. Sargeant then making a tremendous low one-handed save when, from a Peter Murphy pass up, Marshall's powerful shot from the edge of the box looked in all the way into the far bottom corner of the net.

Carlisle did make it 5-0 after 41 minutes though when Chester's header was cleared off the line by John Hill, possession fell straight to Madine though with the end result being very similar to Zoko's earlier volleyed goal. The last chance for the Cumbrians to get another goal before the break coming two minutes into injury time when, from a Madine lay-off, Berrett sent a 20-yard shot way over the top of Sargeant's crossbar.

Both sides made a double substitution during the interval as Tipton changed to a 4-4-2 formation from 4-5-1 and the Blues brought on Craig Curran and youngster Ben Mckenna for Zoko and Robson respectively. Early on Sargeant was forced into stopping an own goal as he made a neat save when Parker deflected a Frank Simek cross goalwards, Berrett then firing wide of the Tipton goal from 25 yards out after a short pass to him by the busy Marshall.

Sargeant then made another cracking save after 53 minutes when he did very well low down at his far-post to keep out Marshall's pacey 22-yard direct free-kick. The Tipton stopper then making an easy catch from Madine's header on a Simek cross in, the visitors now though coming into the game a little as they first won their opening corner before Cameron Jones smacked a long range shot well over the top.

Tom Taiwo then dragged an effort well wide for United before being replaced by Kevan Hurst, then the visitors had another chance on the Carlisle goal when, from a poor Adam Collin throw out, Jones tried a long range chip which drifted away off target. The game now getting a little bit more end to end when in the 69th minute Marshall shot well over the top before seeing his next effort only seconds later be expertly tipped over his crossbar by Sargeant.

Marshall was the main man for United throughout but he headed poorly wide from a Berrett corner before Curran all but air-kicked a shot, which allowed Tipton to race forward only for top scorer Danny Campbell to slice his drive well wide of the near-post. Mckenna then headed a Simek cross over the top before, after some good second-half resistance by Town, Carlisle made it 6-0 on 82 minutes when Madine slotted easily home from ten yards out after Curran's low cross in from the left.

Tipton then missed their best chance to get a consolation goal four minutes later when substitute Jozsef Jakab pushed a pass across only for Jones to scoop a shot way too high from close range. Hurst then hammered a drive into the empty Warwick Road End before United's last opportunity to make the final scoreline 7-0 came and went in injury time when Berrett's volley on goal was well tipped behind by Sargeant.
