Karl Hawley helped himself to a first-half hat-trick as Carlisle United romped to a 7-0 win against a dismal Farnborough side.

Goalkeeper Craig Holloway was the chief culprit for Borough with a series of mistakes that helped put the Cumbrians five goals up at half-time.

Hawley's first came after a Holloway howler let Andy Preece lob the ball on to the striker and he finished into an empty net.

Sacha Opinel's foul on Brendan McGill then allowed Preece to slot in a 16th minute penalty.

Within two minutes Preece sent Peter Murphy down the wing and his cross was met by Hawley who nodded in unmarked.

The former Walsall striker's hat-trick was completed in the 28th minute when Preece robbed Robert Hughes and crossed for Hawley to claim the match ball.

Preece grabbed his second when Holloway sliced a clearance into the air, allowing the veteran striker to hook his shot past the keeper in the 35th minute.

Carlisle took their foot of the pedal in the second half, but Magno Vieira and McGill completed the scoring.
