It's a sort of similar style to the last one but with more of the club's modern day players featured. And you can't get more modern than the manager featured -he's also written the foreword for the book - it's Mr Paul Simpson. And the profile and in-depth interview about his life in football makes for both very honest and fascinating reading. One or two folk on the way back from Scarborough (yes it really was that boring) had a go at trying to guess who the eleven players featured would be. There were more Blues fans who worked out who will be in it than didn’t – which was both pleasing and a nice surpise. Mind you the best laugh was when someone suggested naming an all time worst ever CUFC side. You could always make your own up if you were really bored! To start off the goalkeeping jersey was ‘won’ by Mr Kevin Rose. I better not say anything else or name more names. Was a good laugh though Unlike that quaint seaside team we were playing that day! Not sure who they thought was turning up but it’s years since I’ve seen that many police officers at a football match. And what a nice gesture to shut every single pub in the area. Maybe we should start doing the same to a few visiting clubs. Morecambe wasn’t much better either was it. Yet away fans come to Carlisle and (before the floods of course) and enjoy what’s on offer at the Beehive, rugby club, etc and can also enjoy a drink inside Brunton Park if they want. It’s not on in my opinion. On a happier note it was great to see me old mate David Reeves again, though of course it would just have to been us he was playing against. I thought he was their best player by far and for an old pro he still had some pace didn’t he. Dave would have come back to Carlisle in the summer, despite what some say he really did want to. Of course no way can the details of what stopped it happening can be gone into here. In my opinion though a combination of Preece and Reeves – aye and some younger legs in midfield perhaps – would cause massive problems for opposition defences in the Conference. Anyway Mr Reeves has still got his well known sense of humour. As anyone who was at the game knows that performance by the referee has to down as one of the worst ever. Not only did Reevesy agree he actually said so to the ref. But this was after what he felt was a series of awful decisions – given AGAINST Carlisle. Not sure if this is a first by a player who wasn’t playing for their own team – but you know what the ref did – produced a yellow card and proceeded to book Mr Reeves. You couldn’t make it up could you! Paul Simpson is working his bollocks off to bring in players and let's hope he has some success soon because the team does need a bit of a lift. I only hope he's getting the help required from everyone else at the club. He deserves it! Respect to you all Mick |
